My take on several main characters of novel The Master and Margarita (Russian: Мастер и Маргарита) by Mikhail Bulgakov

Woland and his retinue 🌚 

The prototype of Woland can be called Mephistopheles from Goethe's Faust. It is quite clear that in novel Woland is Satan. Woland's retinue in Moscow consists of several characters. Koroviev-Fagot (tall man) is the eldest of demons subordinate to Woland. This is his first assistant and knight, who introduce himself to the Muscovites as an interpreter with a foreign professor and former regent of the church choir. Azazello the combination in one character of the ability to seduce and kill, but Azazello's main function is connected with violence. Behemoth the giant cat (werecat). And finally there's Hella, the woman vampire.
But why did Woland come to Moscow in the 1930s? The purpose of his mission, apparently, was to identify the evil in people, but there is nothing to create - evil and so engulfed the city. Woland could only laugh at people, over their naivety and stupidity.
